Describe the whole removal request
Tell the provider whether the item is a portable spa, an inflatable tub or a larger swim spa. Add the manufacturer and model if available without opening equipment or moving the tub. Approximate outside length, width and height, together with clear photos, give the provider a starting point for assessment.
Explain whether the spa is working, damaged, empty or still holding water. Include the cover, detached steps and other accessories you want assessed for removal. State whether your aim is disposal or relocation of a usable spa; those are different requests and may require different providers.
Also identify surrounding structures. A tub sitting beside a deck, one recessed into decking and an indoor spa do not present the same access conditions. Request assessment before assuming the tub or any enclosure can be removed as part of an ordinary pickup.
Give a clear picture of the access
Photograph the route from the spa to a possible loading location, including the places where it narrows or changes level. Useful details include gate openings, sharp turns, steps, slopes, overhead obstructions and the distance to vehicle access. Send measurements you can take safely without moving the spa or taking structures apart.
- Show the tub from more than one side and include its immediate surroundings.
- Note fences, walls, deck rails or permanent equipment along the route.
- Identify any part of the route that crosses shared or neighboring property.
- Describe restricted vehicle access and any agreed loading hours.
- Ask whether photos are sufficient or an on-site assessment is needed.
The provider needs to decide whether their equipment and removal method fit the location. If access requires opening a fence, altering a deck or using specialist lifting equipment, have them explain the proposed scope and any separate arrangements before scheduling.
Confirm preparation before the collection date
Tell the provider what you know about the spa’s power connection and whether water remains in it. Ask who is responsible for preparation, who can perform that work and what must be completed before removal. If the connection type or condition is unknown, say so and request assessment.
Hot Spring’s manufacturer guidance says directly wired spas need an electrician or spa service representative for safe disconnection and recommends trained spa movers. Read Hot Spring’s guidance on professional spa moving. Follow the instructions for your own model and the advice of the qualified professional handling preparation.
A referral request does not confirm electrical work, draining, dismantling or lifting services. Keep those responsibilities explicit in the agreed plan. Do not start cutting the shell, removing panels or altering connections to prepare for a quote; photos and a description let the provider identify what assessment is needed.
Ask what the removal quote actually covers
Ask the independent provider to confirm they handle the type of spa and access conditions you described. Then review the specific work: any approved dismantling, moving the tub from its current location, loading, removal of listed accessories and the agreed cleanup of the work area.
Clarify whether the quote covers disposal only or another arrangement, and ask what happens if an assessment reveals a blocked route or additional preparation. Do not assume removal includes restoring a deck, taking out a concrete pad or repairing fencing. If you want any of that work considered, list it separately so the provider can confirm capability or recommend a separate service.
Give your preferred date and any deadline tied to a replacement spa or property handover. Ask the provider to confirm the sequence before booking another installation. No standard load estimate can establish whether a spa can be removed from its location or what the complete job will cost.
Common questions
Can a provider remove a hot tub from a fenced backyard?
Send photos of the spa, gate openings and the full route to vehicle access. The provider must assess whether they can perform the removal and whether any separate access work is needed.
Do I need to disconnect or drain the spa before requesting a quote?
You can request an assessment with the spa in its current condition. Describe the connections and any remaining water, then confirm preparation responsibilities with the provider and an appropriate qualified professional before collection.
Does hot tub removal include the surrounding deck?
Do not assume it does. Identify the deck or enclosure in your photos and list any structural work separately. The provider must confirm whether they offer that work and include it in the agreed scope.
